General information only

The content published on netbuttononline.com by Net Button Online LLC is provided for general information and educational purposes. It describes widely shared horticultural practice. It is not personalised advice for your garden, your soil, your climate zone or your particular plants, and it should not be treated as a substitute for guidance from a qualified local horticulturist, arborist or agricultural extension service.

Results vary

Gardening outcomes depend on soil type, drainage, aspect, altitude, rainfall, frost dates, plant variety, timing and a good deal of weather that nobody controls. Two people following the same guide in different places will get different results, and neither is doing anything wrong. We make no promise or guarantee about how any plant, bed or container will perform.

Timings and regional variation

Seasonal timings on this site are written as a sequence — what follows what — rather than as fixed calendar dates. Adjust them to your own last and first frost dates. A job described as a spring task may fall weeks apart in two regions of the same country.

No product recommendations

We do not sell plants, seeds, tools or garden products, and we do not recommend or endorse any specific pesticide, herbicide, fungicide, fertiliser or other treatment. Where a category of product is mentioned it is as an example only. If you choose to use any garden chemical, read and follow its own label, observe any protective measures it specifies, and comply with the regulations that apply where you live.

Safety, plants and people

Some ornamental plants are toxic to people or animals if eaten, and some cause skin irritation on contact. Nothing on this site should be read as advice on the edibility, medicinal use or safety of any plant. Check reliable local sources before planting where children or pets have access, and seek medical or veterinary help immediately in the event of ingestion.
